FISHERMEN’S COMMUNITY HOSPITAL
Prior to Hurricane Irma’s devastation on September 10, 2017, Fishermen’s Community Hospital was an all purpose, critical access hospital offering a 24/7 emergency room, inpatient and outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging, lab testing, and physical and occupational therapy. Hurricane Irma struck, causing substantial damage, and the hospital has been closed since. In an effort to provide basic healthcare to the middle Keys community, three weeks after the storm Baptist Health South Florida brought in a field hospital offering an emergency department, lab, X-Ray and pharmacy. In July 2018, a brand-new $5.4 million custom-designed modular hospital with expanded capabilities and staffing opened in the parking lot of the old Fishermen’s Community Hospital. Both the previous field hospital and its improved modular replacement will incur substantial operating losses due to a decline in revenue and maintenance of a costly 24/7 clinical care infrastructure. We plan to construct a new critical access hospital on the existing Fishermen’s Community Hospital site that will meet the needs of the community well into the future. The cost of an entirely new replacement hospital is estimated to be $40 million. To make this vision a reality, we need your generosity to achieve our goal of $15 million in philanthropic commitments. We are asking you to find it in your hearts to support this great cause. A new Fishermen’s Community Hospital will enable our dedicated staff to continue to provide the high-quality, compassionate care they have delivered for the last six decades.
Homestead Hospital is devoted to providing the latest and most innovative care to the community, and often must rely on the generosity of donors. Philanthropy has been the fuel behind much of the outstanding and often charitable patient care provided at Homestead Hospital. Our Emergency Department provides primary care to many members of our community. When the new facility opened in 2007, 43,934 patients were cared for in the Emergency Department (ED). The ED is currently treating almost double that amount, which makes it one of the busiest EDs in South Florida. Last year, over 94,000 patients were treated in the ED, and that number is anticipated to increase in the years to come.. With high-quality care and patient safety our priority, upgraded Emergency Department equipment is essential in the continued care we provide our community. Equipment such as new Stryker wheelchairs and stretchers, portable patient monitors and a chest compression system to treat sudden cardiac arrest patients will ensure continued high-quality care.
In order for Mariners Hospital to increase our capacity to care for our community when it’s needed most, we are planning an expansion of our Emergency Center. The expansion will help us maximize efficiency, meet growing patient demand and reduce wait times for our patients. One of the goals of our expansion project is to create an area in our Emergency Center to more quickly treat and release patients with minor illnesses and injuries to allow them to get home faster. Our hospital’s board-certified physicians and specially-trained nurses professionally handle every emergency. We are home to the only hospital-based hyperbaric chamber in the Keys, where divers can be treated for decompression illness or the bends. Additionally, if critically ill or injured patients require specialized care unavailable at Mariners, we will quickly transfer them to a Baptist Health facility equipped to treat them.

SOUTH MIAMI HOSPITAL
Back and neck pain are among the most common health problems in adults. Injuries or conditions that affect the mechanical structure of the spine – the intricate network of muscles, bones and connective tissues – can cause pain and loss of function that affect every aspect of life.
The Center for Spine Care, located today at Baptist Hospital, offers multidisciplinary care in a structured patient-care setting. Along with advanced diagnostic testing and treatments, we take a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of spinal conditions and focus on the specific needs of each patient. In every case, our goal is to return the patient to their job and an active lifestyle as soon as possible. Your philanthropic support will enable us to move and expand the Center for Spine Care at South Miami Hospital.
